The New Year capped off a roller coaster ride for Facebook during 2016 and ended with a robust fourth quarter despite heavy criticism for what some believe was the social media giant’s role in swaying the presidential election.

Mark Zuckerberg acknowledged as much and hinted at a role for Facebook in uniting a deeply divided nation: “Our mission to connect the world is more important now than ever. Our business did well in 2016, but we have a lot of work ahead to help bring people together.”
